Designer & Strategist currently based in Berlin.
What I'm doing now
I’m the Product lead for the Reliabilit Platform in Tech Foundations at HelloFresh, located in Berlin DE, where I manage a small team of product mangers, and collaborate with tech and business leadership, as well as platform & feature engineering teams to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our colleagues in Tech, and the reliability of the services they build and operate.
In my free time, I listen to a LOT of audiobooks (mostly fantasy and sci-fi) and podcasts (about design, behavioral economics, science, and language) while wandering around one of Berlin’s lakes, or working on a project from one of my many hand-craft hobbies (including embroidery, crochet, hand-poke tattooing, fabric repairs, and sewing). I’ve been hosting a weekly crafting meetup since 2021, and have been a volunteer on the organizational team of Repair Café Wedding since mid 2022.
Who I am
I can’t help making, fixing, and organizing things, and I’m passionate about understanding and solving complex problems that both tangibly and emotionally improve the lives of human beings. I have the most fun when I’m feeling challenged, when I’m learning new things, and when I’m working with other humans who value generosity, community, and excellence. My superpower is asking questions that drive deep reflection, and listening with compassion and without judgement. I don’t consciously pursue leadership positions, but when things are unclear, I tend to jump in to offer support to find, align, and coordinate efforts, and often find others following.
Where I've been
I grew up on a farm (with 3 younger siblings) in what now feels like the literal middle of nowhere, USA. I had my first leadership responsibilities as the President of my 4-H club in 2004. I started my first “real” design job doing client-work in my school’s entrepreneurship class in 2005. I started my first professional tech / media job in 2007 to do part-time design and project management while finishing High School. I started university in Fall 2009, and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Design in 2013. I moved to Berlin at the beginning of 2016, and I never want to leave. I’ve liked making things and solving problems as long as I can remember, and (according to my mother) I’ve been relentlessly asking “why?” since 1992.
